Did a set at the open mic on friday. All brand new beats with some remix bizness thrown in. I'm really not sure how it went. I didn't have my drum pad, so people didn't have much to look at. I keep having to remind myself that instrumental music of any kind is a niche thing, especially so with music that cant be 100% live ( Read more... )

i like the tags on this post. fabulous.

don't spend so much time on the strategies that you lose sight of doing what you've got to do.

sure, but what I mean is I can act in a way that seems like it might protect me from the things I fear and maybe get me what I want, but realistically, thats not whats going to happen. So I might as well act in a way that I can be proud of later. Safety from pain is a mirage, and what I think I want may very well be fleeting and/or imposible to get... so not just as something I think I should do, but as the only real way to find satisfaction and growth, I need to aproach situations with focus on the process, on how I conduct myself, not the results. Say I tripped - maybe I land better if I put all my energy into falling well - maybe not, but, more importantly, I'll have fallen well.

Okay. You know what you want. Commit to it. Don't put any expectations on it. Leave it open for the Concourse to lift you the rest of the way. And if you stumble, well...http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TMNTe5zLpzA

Gav-in! How did you get to be the best genius EVER? You are so genius that examples of genius fall into your world so that you can share them with others at just the right moment. Your genius is like a genius magnet. i sure misses you.

i told abi i needed to practice something. abi said, "isn't life just practice any way?" then she added, "aren't we just practicing for the next world."

this practice idea has been such a help to me. because if all we're doing is practicing (with whatever strategies we choose) then we're always excelling. everytime we try again we can only do better than the last time. and the outcome... while having a goal might be necessary... attaining it becomes a set of incremental practices each building on the last.

it's like when the house said "confidence is patiently built as the friends engage in more complex and demanding acts of service..." while my private hope is that we're all gaining confidence in service, i think in the broader stroke this is a principle that can apply in service, in work, in career, in love... across the board.
