That's a sad story, Paul. I think it'd be really worthwhile to try and get back in touch with her. Of course, you will both have changed a lot since you were in love, but (since you have unresolved issues and regrets involving her) I think it could be cathartic to get to know her again. I think it'd be flattering rather than stalker-like--after all, you still chat with her sister now and again, and it's not like you never knew Ruth and have been creepily watching her from afar since high school or something!

I understand the nerves, but I do hope you work up the courage to try and say hello again sometime. :)

Aww wow, this is a lovely story but also very sad! I agree with what Gondor has said above about reconnecting with her. You're both much older and more mature now that I doubt you getting in touch would be taken badly. Personally I would find it flatter as Gondor mentioned also :)

Do try to find the courage to get in touch, especially as you were both very good friends before you got involved romantically, it would be shame to always have that regret when all it takes is a text message, email or a phone-call :) Good Luck Pal and thank you for sharing this :)
