Elizabeth held open her arms and spun. James watched nearby, his arms crossed and a smile on his face, matching his fiancé’s expression. After a few minutes, she collapsed on the ground, laughing happily. James kneeled next to her and took her in his arms.
“So this makes you happy?”
“Helplessly,” she answered looking around the extravagant garden maze. It really was a grand gift. The place had a magic air to it. “Thank you so much James.”
“You are most welcome. I’m glad you find it suitable?”
“How could I not?” She paused, taking the place in again. “James, do you believe in magic?”
“Ever since I fell for you, Miss Swann.”
She giggled. “Not for much longer. For soon, I shall be Mrs. Norrington.”
“Of course.”
They sat in silence for some time until James brought his cheek to her breast.
“James!”
“Shhh,” he smiled. “I’m listening to your heart.”
“Oh. And what, pray tell, is it saying?”
“That you’re a fool to marry me. You could do much better.”
“James, you are quite a silly man. I think you are quite misunderstanding my heart.”
He looked up at her. “And what, might you suggest, it is saying?”
“That you are a fine man and I’m a very lucky girl.”
“Well then, I am ridiculously happy to hear that.” James kissed her nose lightly. “You are so wonderfully spirited, Elizabeth. I often wonder why you don’t up and leave me.”
“Not for the world, Commodore James Norrington-not for the world.”
