Oh wow - what a brilliant day! I went on a whale watch once, when I was maybe 7 or 8, and I remember a cold, raw afternoon when we hadn't seen any movement, and sitting a small enclosed place drinking powered hot chocolate - and then people calling, and everyone running to the rail, and we saw three humbpacks, two adults and a calf, all close by - and they dove under the boat and came up on the other side, and everyone went running to see them … back and forth, and they were playing. And it was magic.
A couple or three years ago, a poet at a local word festival told me what it's like to feel whale song under water. Vibrating head to foot. I remember that too, sitting at a local put that no longer exists, after a reading, listening to her remember.
