It's really sad when people I used to have at least a little respect for decide to go join groups on FB that are seething pits of racist hatred. >_< It's even sadder when they probably wouldn't understand why that made me unfriend them. ::sigh:: I hate Indiana.

I would think that at least some of them might understand quite well, even if they did the standard deny/defend/counterattack routine of those who get confronted about behavior they have every cause to be ashamed of. If you don't tell them why, they'll probably never guess the reason; certainly they won't have to acknowledge that they are doing something so hateful that people who formerly liked and respected them are shunning them for it.
Maybe if they did have to face up to that fact, some of them would decide that they didn't want to engage in the behavior any more. Peer pressure is an immensely powerful force, but sometimes its power can be broken by just one person who has the guts to go against it.
