I just did one of those things that either makes people laugh hysterically or back away slowly. I was trying to remember where to find an obscure short story I read when I was maybe thirteen in a mass market paperback anthology from the 1970s, but which I haven't read since. "in the middle of a book at the bottom of a pile of neglected paperbacks in my library"

In your own library, you mean, yes? Books belonging to you, rather than 'your library' in the sense of your local public library?

Doesn't seem so strange to me. I've got a ton of old SF anthologies too; don't remember what's in most of them, but if I had to find any particular story among them, even with only a vague discription to go by, it wouldn't take long. Process of elimination, right? You know where it's not, and the more places it's not, the fewer places to look.

Y'know, I just gave away the Helliconia trilogy, having had it around all these years and never once read it. It always looked good, but it also looked long, and the opportune moment never arose. Oh well. It'll come around to me again, no doubt. Anyway, I'm glad you found your story!

Books belonging to me, yes, even if I've not touched them in a while. It doesn't seem all that strange to me, but other people tend to find that sort of thing vaguely alarming for some reason.

Then again, I think most people find just the number of books I own somewhat alarming. xD
