Olympic Pairs Figure Skating!
So, I actually managed to watch the Olympic pairs figure skating event! Amazing ... I can't even tell you how long it's been since I watched anything on TV (and I love TV, don't get me wrong.) I am SO, SO GLAD that Shen Xue and Zhao Hongbo won the gold medal.Shen and Zhao's short program was breathtaking, just amazingly, insanely beautiful, maybe the best pairs short program I've ever seen.
I was blown away. Not to mention that they skated to "Who Wants To Live Forever?" I've watched it like five times now. Unbelievable.
In fact, as anyone who watched them knows, they set a new record for the highest score in a pairs short program in international competition. The only problem with it, really, was that it made all of the other programs afterward -- including their long program -- appear mediocre.
(And yes, I know this was Sun/Mon nights, but I Tivo'd it & just finished, because who can deal with all of the commercials and the way ABC is constantly cutting back and forth between events?!)
