I just pray to whatever power there is in the Universe to keep him with us for a while. I hesitate to think what would happen if the right wing nut-jobs with guns get their way.
What really makes me mad is that I have friends -- fairly intelligent friends with university diplomas and good jobs -- who are sending me links to Glenn Beck's weird rantings. Seriously!!! This is almost to the point that I am ready to say "If you guys really believe this rot, I don't think I can maintain our 'friendship' any longer. There is something basically, intrinsically wrong here." *sigh* If you watch Beck, it is so clear that he is appealing to the racism of his viewers, whether admitted or not, and fear-mongering at a colossal scale.
I had something like that happen to me as well. Only it was a broadcast email, funny enough, it was about something benign like an urban legend about how your car would get stolen if you used an electronic key fob to lock it. I debunked it, very politely pointing her and all the folks she sent the email to, to the Snopes site where it was clearly debunked as an urban legend, then she and one of the folks on her distribution list slammed back on me that Snopes was run by a bunch of kids in their parents' basements and they were making this stuff up and not researching it at all. (I found the exact wording she used in her response to me on a right-wing blog. Obviously she had cut and pasted it.) Actually Snopes is run by a couple about MY age and they do meticulous research on all their topics and have been written up in several print magazines for the site, including Reader's Digest of all things! But no, these guys didn't want to hear it. Why? Because Snopes was one of the first to debunk the whole "Obama isn't a real citizen"
