Credit goes to Jason for finding this, which is awesome and makes me want to roar.

In other news, if anyone is interested, I'm going to babble about my reading so far this year.
1. "Makioka Sisters" by Junichiro Tanizaki.  Read this because we saw the film in my Japanese Culture through Film and Fiction class last semester, and I'm trying to read ( Read more... )

If you're getting into Junichirou Tanizaki, I would NOT recommend his short story, "The Tattooer". As a woman, it's uncomfortable for me to read, because the story can easily be read as an analogy to a rape narrative (in my opinion), and I found it to be somewhat misogynist. I almost went into a feminist rage in my Japanese lit. class when we were discussing it last week (well, not so much discussing it as the teacher talking about it because half of the class never reads the friggin' assigned readings).

I buy Tanizaki being misogynistic, I'll be looking for that in his other works. I hate classes like that. "What? Do work? Derrrrr." I can see having a misogynistic narrative being a valuable part of a Lit class... you can learn a lot about a culture based on the accepted or lauded domination and power crimes that appear in the literature. But it's negligent and irresponsible (IMO) to assign something like that and not discuss those themes... or not even be aware of them. Grrrr at your prof!

I read a book by Margaret Atwood late last year. I forget which one, but I liked it. :)

I recommend anything by Chuck Palahniuk or Dave Barry. I've said it before, and I promise I'll say it again and again and again. :)

Holy crap! 3rd world Pink Ladies!

So... the Vagina Monologues were here today and I didn't go cause I was busy baking (I shit you not, and nothing turned out that well... fucking electric stoves)

And also, I think my roomie's gonna read Makioka Sisters, just because of the last line being about diarrhea.

Those Pink Ladies make me wanna roar too: FEM!RAWR (although that could never do it justice).

I read A Clockwork Orange before I saw the film and love it to pieces. I've been meaning to read something of Atwood's for ages.

I'm really looking forward to reading it. I didn't see the movie until the past year and I really enjoyed it. I definitely think you'd enjoy Atwood. Handmaid's Tale made my ovaries swell (in the butch way, not in the ovulating way).
