You'll be free when you decide to make all of life's decisions from love, and no more decisions from fear.
A decision from love is called an inspiration. A decision from fear is called an obligation. So just do what you feel inspired to do. 95% of the time, it'll clear up all those obligations anyway.
Since my whole family is pretty much Puerto Rican, I can somewhat relate to what you're talking about..
what any family may not get is that people outside of their race has the mentality to UNDERSTAND. They are afraid of is losing the integrity of the culture. Culture for me is a huge issue, and I feel that if a person does not have pride of their roots, they are missing out on the true value of 'family'. America is all about diversity, and that as humans [reasonable ones for that matter] should take the time to respect each and every tradition. Through understand, racism, slander of any kind, and religious hate will no longer have a purpose in our lives.
The best thing we can do is teach our children to respect every living being on this earth, and themselves. They must know that love, is more important than the color of another's skin.
i'm sorry to hear about your friend. with a mixed family i totally know what it's like for the discrimination. my grandmother didn't speak to my mother for a very long time after marrying my stepfather who is black and even longer after my sister was born. it's similar because where i live people are so old fashioned and can't accept people for who they are rather than what color their skin is or what country they are from.
on a brighter note...yay for vermont...i'll see ya monday! word of advice-bug spray to the max!!! *~*gRaCeAnNe*~*
