to be or not to be sparkyphoenix November 29 2003, 23:48:28 UTC
well, seeing as how i just went through this...
the only person who can really make this decision is you, because everyone in my house joined for their own reasons. i rushed because i've always wanted to be greek. but when it came down to it. i've never really been friends with girls, and now that i am, i see that it has it's ups and downs... secondly, i didn't have any friends outside my roommate, and that's just plain sad. but joining a house, gave me an instant group of friends who will be there for me for the rest of my life. and even though you're in a house, you can still go off and do your own thing. being in a sorority you can be as active as you want to be. i dunno. a sorority shouldn't make you conform, a sorority whould accept you for who you are, not who they want you to be. i dunno, i know that i'm happy with the decision i made though.

I think you're looking at in the wrong light. Don't look at joining or not joining just as a list of pros and cons. Go to a rush or open house or whatever they have and see if you like the girls. I rushed a couple of frats last year but didn't pledge because I was ambivilent about the lifestyle pros and cons, but realized I didn't like most of the guys. I think you should think more about the people and less about that other stuff.

Good luck with whatever you decide.
