February Needs to Be OVER

Feb 27, 2008 22:08

I'm not sure I have it in me to make it until Friday. I hate winter. That is to say, I love snow and cocoa and stew and fuzzy socks, but days upon days of shivering in damp, sunless limbo wears me down, despite my lovely medication. I can't focus. I can't think. And I begin to truly believe that everyone loathes me. No matter what they tell ( Read more... )

I love winter. And I love snow. November through January is fun for me.

But after being stuck inside for nearly over a month thanks to strep and the stomach flu from hell and slipping on the ice no less than five times... I'm done.

Normally I'm done by mid-February.

This time, I was done by early to mid January.

Spring can't come too soon.

As evidence of that, I nearly freaked when I saw the sun for the first time the other day... "Agh! What is that devilish ball of yellow glowing fire??? It burns my skin and blinds me eyes! Avert your eyes children, it may take other forms! Take cover! Flee! It is the end times, surely the end times!"

You, my friend, are an odd, odd man. not that you needed me to tell you this, but I felt it needed to be said.

Oh, and you might want to invest in a good pair of sunglasses... :P

Well... donutato_kun February 28 2008, 20:19:48 UTC
I'm exagerating, of course. But yeah, I hadn't seen a good sunny day that was above freezing for so long that I was kinda like... "What is this? Ah yes... I remember this thing... I think it's called... sunshine."

I do like Spring, and normally welcome it (even though I do love winter). It's just this year I want it NOW, versus most years, where I'm just a tad more patient.

I don't think umpteen feet of "forever" snow that doesn't melt mixed with the record lows this year didn't help.

Hehe, yeah, I know. It also doesn't help that we so often forget that a bright, sunny day when there is snow on the ground is actually brighter than during the summer. All that sunlight reflecting off the white snow can be blindingly bright.

I also agree that the snow has stuck around well past it's welcome. One or two good snowstorms in a winter are quite enough, rather than damn near one a week for the past two months or so. (admittedly, this past week was pretty weak, however it still fucking snowed!!!)

The cold, though, doesn't bother me as much, mostly because I've lived through much worse. Anyone who has experienced a North Dakota winter can honestly say they moved to Chicago for the milder winters. Needless to say, I was outta there upon turning 18... Crazy, not stupid. :)
