Down pillows harbor more dust mites than hollowfill pillows...so they should be replaced every year. You may be allergic to dust mites more than the down. National Allergy Supply sells nicer ones than stores will. I think they also sell allergy down pillows that are double lined. http://www.natlallergy.com/ I've bought a LOT of stuff from them...and they're great to order from. Their dust mite soap is great...so are their pet shampoos...which is one of the reasons most folks with dog allergies don't die when they're at my house.

My father has slept only on a waterbed for the past twenty years. Whenever he vacations or goes on business and sleeps on a hard mattress, his back suffers.
For me, I can sleep on any hard surface anywhere. The problem is the pillows. Hotel pillows are notoriously soft and blob-like. My head gets sucked in and my neck loses support. This is one of the reasons I nearly always get migraines when I travel.
Travel pillows don't help me when I sleep. So I've found that taking an extra couple hotel towels and shoving them under the pillow tends to make them stiffer and solves most of the problem.
Funny how stupid things have such an impact.
