I've been trying to copy/rip The Fellowship of the Ring onto my hard drive using a free trial DVD ripper that I downloaded online. The only problem was that it only allowed me 5 lousy minutes of the three hour movie. If you have a camcorder, VHS is going to be your best friend. Most new camcorders have a setting where you can input video from a VCR (or DVD player, but then you run into copyright issues again). From there, you can use a USB cable to upload it to your computer and your program of choice.
