Ooooh, David Eddings! I think that Pawn of Prophecy , and the whole Belgariad, is the best of his work! Considering how female characters are usually botched up in Fantasy, his are quite well done, especially Polgara.

I remember being bored to death by his next... er... heptalogy? don't remember the title, though.

I read the Belgariad and the Mallorean a long time ago, but I loved them and I've been looking forward to re-reading them for ages!

Was it the Sparhawk books you were bored by? I can't remember what they were called, either. They were the first ones I read, so I've got a soft spot for them.

If the Sparhawk is the book in which a young queen is poisonned and kept in a kind of suspended states by knights who die one by one to save her precious ass, then yes it is. I don't keep a fond memory of it (found it downright gloomy) but to be honest I read it after the Belgarian and Mallorean, so I couldn't help but be a bit disappointed, because it's kind of the same thing, only, well, gloomier.

I theorically own the whole belgariad and mallorean series, but since they are the books I most often recommend to friends (along with 'The Gnome trilogy' by pratchett and 'a year in the merde' by stephen clarke)they're kind of scattered through France. *sigh*

That's the one. He does recycle a lot in his books, some of the characters seem to be basically the same person!

I liked A Year In the Merde, but I haven't read those Pratchett books. Well, not yet!

are you kidding me? have you read all these books during the past year? In that case, I salute you!!Wonderful wonderful...! I haven't read one of those books I think that you mention. Not even Beedle(shame on me-I know).
Please don't find this book advise rude or anything; but I've got one for you if you want one:P Try more translated boooks from other countries. I know Russai has a couple(!) of splended writers, just to mention one:P
Sometimes I find myself reading only those books really popular, which I think is a pity. Although many of those you mention I haven't even heard of! How did you find Paolo Cohelo btw? I was hoping to borrow a book of my friend that he has written.
And thanks; a book list is genius:D

Yep, they are indeed the books that I read last year. Sadly I didn't find most of them too memorable.

I don't find your advice rude at all. I love getting book recommendations. I should read a more varied selection, really.

I found Paulo Coelho quite good. It was easy to get into, although about halfway through I started to find it a struggle to carry on. That was probably just me, though. I'd definitely recommend trying that book, and I've heard that another of his (can't remember the title) is good, too.
