I get two PBS channels up in this bitch. The one was having this cool archaeological excavation of Stalag Luft 3, where it is rumored that the never-discovered by the Germans tunnel was. The archaeologists found the trick sewer that was rumored to be the entrance, and invited three former POWs from the camp to come look at it. Hearing these guys ( Read more... )

I luck out and get some great shit. Bruce Springsteen concerts, Cream shows, and the Harry Chapin biographic. THAT was amazing, too.

I've heard some really incredible stories from the different wars on tv and from a few friends who fought in the later ones. One of my favorites is the story of the guy (I cant remember his name) who was a P.O.W. in vietnam. The captors videotaped the guy, having him recite from a piece of paper, basically stating that he was fine, and not being mistreated, etc.
When the bigwigs in washington got hold of the recording, one bright boy noticed that the prisoner was blinking...a lot. Like he had something in his eyes. Turned out the dude was blinking in fucking morse code! Told them his location, that he was being tortured, everything. They knew exactly where to come and get him. Incredible situation, and an incredible man.
I cannot imagine what it must have been like to dig those tunnels.
Amazing.

I dl'ed it for addition to the party music rotation. Was searching for a song with "Diamond" in the title and his name came up with that song beside it. So, I figured that was the music gods telling me to get it. I'd never heard it before and wasnt sure if it was a good one. Next party, you're singin'!!

It wasn't until you said that I realized I never said that it was, I only alluded to it. You're damn right it was! Seeing the guys who DUG the tunnel validate the archaeologists theories was awesome. I mean, it WAS PBS, but it was still cool to me.
