Tilt-Shift photography

Anyone ever heard of this? It's a technique whereby you deliberately blur out the region around the object of focus, making average-sized and big objects appear small. Here's a video of a monster truck rally, that you'd be excused for thinking was a Robot Chicken episode.

Nah, Canon's are cheap, relatively speaking. Nikon makes 'em, too, but they run about $600 more each.

The easy solution is to buy an old 4x5 camera and some film holders - presto, you're in business for a couple hundred bucks.

Yeah, it's definitely a cool effect, and I like the combo of tilt-shift and stop-motion there. One of the most interesting uses I've seen, though, is the combination of tilt-shift and infrared.

Wow - those are really cool shots. Is the infrared a special film, or can that be done with a digital camera?

In that case, it's a modified digital camera, which is a lot easier than shooting infrared film (a giant PITA). There are a couple companies out there who modify DSLRs and some point-and-shoots to be infrared-only cameras by ripping out the IR filter and replacing it with an IR-sensitive version.
