he was practically a socialist in all but name, from what i understand. he had a bit of an ego, from all accounts, and he was probably a bit crooked, but the working class and the poor had it a touch easier under his corrupt, egomaniacal thumb than under other governors of the south, if what i've read is at all accurate.

He did some great things, but I guess it's the tyrannical way he accomplished them that made him kinda evil.
