I'm debating signing up for Facebook.

Convince me one way or the other?

I never use mine and log in once every few weeks when I get an email notification that someone has added me. Its a very easy thing to make and forget about.

personally i find it kind of blah - but i think it's easier to find people on facebook than myspace - it can be amusing though

Good for finding people you once knew from school (HS, college, etc) or finding friends of friends.

Bad in the sense that all your friends will start inviting you to join every possible Facebook group or game under the sun and you have to keep cleaning out your 'invitation' box all the time.

So if you wanna find long lost friends, sign up. If you don't care, stick to LJ.

Oh... and prepare to be friended by every single one of your soon-to-be students, your niece, and your brother... so be careful what you put up there.

what kelly said. the cool thing about facebook, though, is that your profile is only viewable to people you've friended, therefore the chances of some stranger seeing it is unlikely, unless you friend all the strangers in the world. Also, one of the things that myspace took forever to do (actually, I'm still not sure if they've got it down yet) is the mutual friend thing. facebook's good for that, as well as the friend finder that shows a list of people that your friends are friends with and perhaps you may know as well.

blah blah blah. if you don't care about flashy, "I'm awesome, check out my profile" stuff like myspace is into, facebook's good. the apps are abundant and most of them are lame, but besides that, it's pretty basic :) Oh, and there's an app where you can upload directly from your iphoto into your photo albums, it's neat and easy.
