Glad to hear you're enjoying Babylon-by-the-Bay. Not surprised, exactly, but very very glad :-D

It's been fun. Do you have any recommendations of places I really need to hit before I leave on Wednesday? And where on Polk should I check out?

And, damn, the Castro IS gay gay gay. Wow.

Places you really need to hit...hmmm...The Japanese Tea Garden in GG park is a must, but go early before the tourists get there (or on a rainy day). Find a taqueria in the Mission that looks like it might fail it's next health inspection and have a mind-bogglingly good burrito. The BiRite Creamery at 18th and Dolores has incredible ice cream (all organic, with vegan options). And there's a really awesome Burmese place at California and 5th ave if you get the chance ( ... )

Yeah, I'm definitely planning to hit the Japanese Tea Garden before I leave. Pretty excited about it, actually.

That's great with the girl scouts. Good thinking.

I'll check it all out. At exactly this moment, actually, I'm at a friend's apartment just above the Sausage Factory. The sign glows just outside the living room window. It's nice that there are some Faeries here.

It's taken me a while to adjust to the whole 'city' thing, but now I really DO like it here. The straight people here really are pretty great.

By the by, thank you for telling me about the Huffington Post about Palin. Um, blows my mind is all I could say about it. I mean, fuck that Queen of Heaven. Also, I wonder how many of their prayers have been "answered" by more earthly (criminal) agents (e.g. that church that burned down, arson?).

Also, I'll probably pick up some Wolf by the end of the year; my hot Australian co-worker was reading Wolf this summer. Good enough endorsement for me!

I highly recommend doing the Burning Man thing at least once. Not that I've ever been there; but I'd certainly consider it; and my coven usually has several attendees. Plus, I used to work in a photo lab, so I've seen many pictures. I do get the impression that between the two, Rainbow sounds more safe and more community oriented, rather than craziness oriented.

I'll take a look at that book; sounds very interesting.

HE WENT TO THE AFTERBURN!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

If you go to BM next year then damnit so am I..huh. I watch it every year on every ding dang format they have and then go to YouTube and look up the work any of the artists are preparing for next year. Did anyone mention Burners Without Borders? Oh dear lord they sound amazing. I want Bunny Ears!!!!!!!!!!! I would love for ODB and TDB to get to go and see the art on the Playa.

There are more than a couple of folk on my flist that have gone to the Burn for more than one go. They love it. In fact one person's son goes every year and started going when his parents first took him the 2nd year it existed.

Too much techno? Can there BE too much techno? I think not.

'Too much techno' is very subjective. For me, it happens shortly after I hear it.

I saw some signs for Burners without Borders (or t shirts or something), and the guy I was there with is a bunny camper, so we were chilling by the inflated, lit-up giant pink bunny rabbit.

The Burners without Borders began in answer to the NOLA relief work, but they are now taking it further out. When they go the idea is to take what they've learned about sustainable living whilst on the Playa, out into the regular world and teach them that their techniques are applicable to these extreme situations anywhere in the world.

I'd bet your friend may be on YouTube. There was someone doing a load of video of the Bunny campers.

I know..totally dorky, but just listening to the sounds of that week, calms me down and makes me feel less nuts about whatever is on my mind at the moment. It is like a pocket of possibilities to view and the artists amaze me with their viewpoints and how they manifest them.

Still can't get enough of the techno :P

The guy down the street that we visit for wine and food sometimes went to Burning Man. At least I think he did, it was over a month ago, so now I am mildly confused by your timeline and his timeline.

No, no, the timeline is quite okay. Trust me, I checked. Burning Man just...does that.

Popping in :)

There is an After Burn gathering in order for them to decompress. It was discovered after the first few years, that those who went for the entire happening, came home, and would get mildly depressed. They missed the freedom, the smells, the people, the art and especially the ideals, basically become homesick, thus the Decompression. It also gives them a chance to get a peek at what the artists are wanting to begin working on for the next year and promotion begins for getting folk to go to the next year on the Playa.

I'm such a Burning Man wannabe dork.....
