As someone who doesn't use LJ much anymore anyway, this new comment page affair obviously doesn't affect me incredibly much, because seriously when was the last time I posted a comment anyway? (Although I do still read CFUD, and it certainly does suck to be them. Good luck guys!) It is a pretty terrible redesign, though. I mean I'd heard about the ( Read more... )

If I got rid of three comms on my flist, I'd be lucky to see five posts a week. Things are pretty quiet over here, and have been for a while. I'm guessing Plurk has something to do with it?

I have to be honest, I don't understand Plurk at all.

But yeah, and like tumblr too. The sad thing is I always liked LJ better than a lot of the social networking things that got more popular later because it's much more suited to indepth discussions (long posts and long threads alike). And I can't really blame them for wanting to imitate sites that are extremely popular, but they just made long threads harder to work with so at this point they're kinda starting to gut that indepth quality!

Presumably LJ's goal is to eventually be just like any other social site, except... much less popular...

It's fantastic, I can't comment at ALL on the new default layout unless I want to use IE :'D

Well yeah that one just makes sense. It's much more important for a site to be all fancy and needlessly animated than functional.

Pretty much the only thing I use LJ for these days is about once every maybe several-months-almost-a-year doing that meme where I think of some fictional characters and try to get people to guess them, and one of the main reasons I did that is largely because of LJ's comment structure! I need my trees, man. And... ability to easily write multiple paragraphs.

I'm thinking of switching to Reddit next time I do that, since it has tree-based comments too, although I'm not sure which subreddit it should go on. Maybe /r/misc. (Also because the people who I'm on the friends list of have likewise become less and less active on LJ and are less and less likely to see/participate in one of those.)
