OMG PEOPLE LIKE NATALIE PORTMAN'S CHARACTER?

I thought she was completely useless and had nothing to do in the entire movie. She could've just NOT been there and it would be fine. I didn't buy into their ~love at all. :/

I didn't buy their love, but I did buy their quickly-generated attraction/fascination/UST toward each other. I see potential there, but they didn't allow a lot of time in the movie for that relationship to develop. I totes would have sat around for an extra 20 min if they'd just worked with their interaction a little more.
