That's an interesting way to learn the kids' names. I always used to wonder how teachers could remember so many kids. And some for years after they taught them, too!

I am suuuuch a visual learner. If you give directions to some place, I will blink and say that's nice. But give me an address and a decent map, and I'm there. No problem at all.

Beginning of the year, I roam around the room and read their names off of my seating chart and stare at their faces. I'm usually good by the end of the second week.

Years later, when I'm not seeing their name everyday, I am hopeless. I tell them I will always remember YOU (true) but not always your name. Wish I could.

Yeah, learn their names and the next day half dozen are gone and you have a batch of new ones instead. The first couple of weeks are what they are.

I can imagine the whining: " Ewwwww, I have to sit next to Erwin? Why can't I sit over there, with my friend Agnes, instead?" (Names obviously chosen for lack of connection to naming trends of 15 years ago.)

But I bet you have no trouble shutting that down.

I hope you have a lovely weekend, and that the first day of school is everything it should be!
