The Fear of Knowledge

Sep 21, 2010 11:48

Yesterday, I went to play a special board game that tests your financial knowledge, as well as teaches you how to improve it.

A few other people were invited to play with me, but they all got scared of the game and decided not to turn up.

Now that got me thinking...

From experience, I get two reactions from people when I talk about money;

1) They listen to what I say to hear my opinion.
or
2) They tense up, get afraid and ask me to stop / refuse to listen.

Here we can see 2 different types of ppl;

People who want to know because they are afraid they don't have enough information to make decisions.
and
People who don't want to know so that they can continue living their life within their comfort zone.

I won't discriminate whatever decision people make, they are entitled to their own opinions. In my heart, however, I feel sorry for those who choose the live in ignorance.

Personally, as an engineer, I'm frightfully afraid when I don't know what I'm doing. Am I making the right choice? Is this correct? These are the questions that run through my mind all the time. And the only way for me to know is to learn more, acquire more knowledge.

From my point of view, refusing to listen is not only foolish, it is dangerous.

Thus, it has come to this:-

Which one are you?

If you say (1), how will you find more knowledge?

If you say (2), what exactly are the fears that you have?

Ask yourself these questions seriously. Don't have to feedback here, but some would be greatly appreciated ^_^
