I keep wanting to do some coherent, analytical episode reviews but it just never happens. The level of squee is too high. So now I figure, why bother? Squee is good.
Oh, there’s all manner of love for this episode and not simply because it’s SO LONG OVERDUE. God.
The secret, while so very hurtsy and angtsty I thought was pretty predictable. It’s more or less what most of the fandom had concluded I think? Sammy meant for some nefarious purpose, Dean needs to save him and if not make the ultimate sacrifice in killing him. It’s perhaps a bit of a cliché, but hell the boys delivered it so perfectly. Dean nearly had me in tears with his pleading with Sam. And poor Sammy.
That said, Dean says he has to look out for and protect him, so what does Sammy do? Leaves. *headdesk* Not that I don’t understand why he felt like he had to do it; I do. He needed answers and he needed to find them on his own and the truth is something that Dean could never protect him from, but still. Dean’s already carrying so much and he goes and adds more worry? Doesn’t he know yet that the best (and safest) place for him to be is with Dean? Doofus.
Sammy goes boom was oddly…funny, considering. :”> I think it helped that it was obvious that it was never going to happen. How could it? Sammy goes boom, show is as good as over.
I still love protective!Dean as much as ever. And I adore how he bloodied up Gordon well and good. ‘Course, it would have been nice if he hadn’t got his ass captured in the end, but I suppose that was necessary.
Yay for code words! They’re so adorable in their geekyness. Even though Dean tries to be cool, he’s still a little geeky. And funkytown of all things? Closet disco lover by any chance? *snicker*
Dean kills me. I love that he’s sitting there, tied in this chair and he’s still winding the guy up about how awesome it was to leave him sitting in his own mess for days. He’s just all kinds of love.
AHAHAHA smoking shoe! God that killed me.
“It’s Sam.”
You tell him, Sammy! Dean’s Sammy, no one else’s. *scowl*
And holy mother of all that is good and worthy, the touching and the grabbing and the cradling and god. I was caught between squeeing and awwwwing and WANTING THEM TO JUST SNOG ALREADY, GOD. But seriously, that scene was beautiful.
“What? You’ll kill me?”
Ahahah, oh Sammy. You have a sense of the funny. I’ll so keep you. *pets*
Woah, sliced and diced fiancé. And Ava’s ring. Yeah, I’m not subscribing to this theory that she’s gone evil. My first thought was that she’d been kidnapped. Well, actually, my first thought was ‘are we going to see her pinned to the roof’ since Sammy seemed kinda keen on her and well. There’s a history there. :P
God, I adored this episode though. It was dark and emotional and the boys delivered the good perfectly, once again.
I’m liking Ava so far. She’s down to earth, upbeat. She doesn’t try too hard to be someone that she’s not. Really, it’s like they’ve taken Jo and made someone who is the polar opposite of her. :P
I’m not sure I believe that any of their Roadhouse connections betrayed them either. I’ll admit that my first thought was Ellen as some sort of revenge for Jo and her husband? But I dismissed that pretty quick. Ash? The quote in a previous episode about him being quick to fold makes a very good point, but I dunno. Jo… Is it awful of me to hope/wonder if Gordon’s roadhouse connection was a possessed!Jo? She hasn’t been heard of in weeks, so. Although it was said he checked up after the demon told him about Sammy and the others, so it’s unlikely. It’s a thought that amused me though.
There was just so much to love about this episode. I might have to watch it again later just…because.
God, it’s so good to have them back. *clings to them*
ETA: I need icons. If anyone comes across any good ones, hit me up please? Thankies. ♥
