02; [sidewalks] Got no choice, no voice, I have no dignity

Nate had been laying kind of low since his arrival in El Dorado, but there was one thing he hasn't been able to get out of since nearly day one, and that would be walking Sophie's dog, Nate Jr. At first it amused him that she named a pet after him, but he soon realized it was more of a curse if anything. Now she just used it against him. "Oh, but ( Read more... )

Any other time, Sara would have ignored the man who was busy having a conversation with his dog as she passed. What she found unusual was not that he was talking to the animal, but that he seemed to be waiting for an answer from it. She laughed to herself as she turned back, amused by his comment, though not wanting to seem overly rude. The excuse of being from New York wouldn't get her far in El Dorado.

"Not really a dog person, are you?" Sara asked, letting her gaze wander down to the dog. He seemed harmless to her, but she'd already heard about animals showing up in apartments at random. A dog was only a good pet if you wanted one in the first place.

She knelt down, letting the dog sniff at her purse before she dared to raise a hand and stroke the back of his neck. "At least he's friendly."

"I'm not against dogs," he shrugged. And he wasn't. But he also wasn't used to taking care of anyone anymore. Except for maybe his team, but they all knew that he wasn't really the one that took care of everyone.

A dog was just a whole other matter. It was more like a child.

He watched her pet Nate Jr. "Is he? He seems to live to torment me."

Well, Nate, your opinion of yourself can be a little ... inflated.
