I
just saw Thor 2: The Dark World. It was legit amazing. The aesthetic was beautiful--it was one of the most seamless blends of sci-fi and fantasy I have ever seen. The costuming was excellent, the special effects were lovely, and of course Chris Hemsworth was beautiful. It was just a really gorgeous movie over all. Also the story was super enjoyable. The only downside was Natalie Portman, because although I'm sure she is a really nice person is sort of like a black hole of chemistry, and her and Thor's romance was kind of weird and faked. Also, she is the sort of annoying female character I hate (feisty and fiery) where Thor's mom and that Siff were like, the sort of women warriors I can get behind. Anyway, 10/10 would watch again.
I just rewatched Superman, and upon rewatching have decided it is not worth it for the 5 minutes of bearded Henry Cavill and the 3 minutes of his space Dad being awesome. I'm not sure what exactly it is about DC (perhaps the sense of entitlement or perhaps this sense of power/disconnect/self-righteousness (tho I'm not sure that is the right word)) that makes those movies thoroughly unlikable to me. Anyway, Superman was far too long, and their romance was almost less plausible than Thor and Jane, and also the fact that he killed easily a couple million people during his fight to save the Earth made it somewhat difficult to actually view him as a Superhero.
I watched Pacific Rim because the tumblr was really excited about it and like, I guess there was this super amazing female character and such. Charlie Hunnam was fucking adorable (duh) and Idris Elba is indeed a hot british dad (I see what tumblr adopted him as such) but mostly the movie was super fake looking and also kind of super dumb and made no sense. As a summer blockbuster about robots built to kill giant sea monsters I see why people liked it but as in intellectual sort of thing idgi. Also Mako, the female hero, was slightly baffling in that she literally spent the entire movie crying and being saved by men (I'm exaggerating but that is p. much what happened) and so as a female icon on feminists on tumblr I was confused. (As a note, some feminist sides of tumblr can be terrifying. I realize I should have prob stayed out of the Mako tag was I was genuinely interested in what I had missed. I mostly got yelled at, so it was not a very productive learning experience.)
Caught up to season six of Sons of Anarchy. Suffice it to say, this TV is second only to Battlestar Galactica in terms of TV shows I adore, and Jax Teller is in my top 5 characters of anything, and certainly my favorite TV character ever (sorry Stefan.) It is seriously completely brilliant and like, I basically am dying over this show ever week. The fandom only seems to exist enforce on Tumblr, which is an issue because they definitely do the whole polarized "love all women hate all men" or vice versa thing, and I think life is generally not so clean, but I really, really want more people to fangirl about this with because I am not kidding when I tell you, favorite show fucking ever. After TVD I legit did not think I'd find another fandom to love like this (Star Wars is my ultimate, but I mean one where I care for graphics, fiction, background info, etc and has the power to reduce me to a mewling pile of mush on a weekly basis) but like, yeah. This shit wins. Hands down. If only there was more fic, and it wasn't crappy :( (Also, Jax and Tara have replaced Stelena as my flagship in life, so that's new.) Basically this show is the best thing ever and everyone should watch it please.
I am watching a lot of other TV shows this year, but nothing is particularly killing me. tbh they are not bad but I feel vaguely tepid about them all because soa is killing me with feelings and such, but I like them all. CW shows will never not be entertaining, and I watch ABC shows because they are so bad they entertain me.
Also, I saw the trailer for the 50th anniversary and it mostly does not look very good at all and I am not looking forward to it at all but I will watch it because why not, its what I do.
Anyway, that is my fandom news.
