in defense to 'i'm not saying the ad industry needs to change, because i know it won't.'
am pointing out that the negative example of beauty you showed was from a magazine article, not an ad. and that the ad you did bring up was the one exposing the distorted views of beauty, not reinforcing them.

and as an ad major, who studies the industry in class and on a daily basis, i have to disagree with the notion that the ad industry isn't changing.

i agree though that society has unhealthy standards of beauty. how much this view affects a person is on an individual basis, though i do agree it has affected many. i would also say though, that many are not being as affected by it as they used to be, or maybe that as they grow up and become comfortable with themselves, it is less of a concern.

i know my specific examples weren't of negative ads... but you cannot deny the prevalence of ads that sell product by simply picturing it next to a digitally modified model.

i wasn't trying to offend you as an ad major; i think your ideas are creative and great. but there are flaws in the system and issues that are important to talk about.

lol no i wasn't offended at all. just felt like counterpointing. i guess in my head i don't consider most fashion advertising real advertising. i mean, the bulk of it is complete trash.
