I finally realized why the boy kept putting off changing it after he said he would - It's at the very top of our stairwell, nearly directly over the first step, so when you get up on the stepladder you have this huge cliff-like drop in front of you. And he's scared of heights standing on a chair on flat ground. Anyway. I took care of it.
