The memories of him with tinsel in his hair and a grin in his eye, on his lips, and a tree that’d he’d all but managed to dress properly, and the Yuletide sadness over his mum, and the parties where he was far too loud and drunk and singing-we’ll tak’ a cup of kindness yet-and he’d take far too many, beckon Paul beneath the mistletoe but they’d wait until they were alone and then they’d have their own Christmas and happy New Year.
Paul smiled, and missed him.
