Excellent characterization of Blunt - he's such a prick, but doesn't even seem to know it himself. He hides behind his patriotism and doesn't see how using Alex is wrong.
I have a hard time grasping (and portraying) Blunt's character. He's just too alien for me to figure out. Sometimes (in the books) he does something brilliant (and cruel) and other times he's as dense as a brick.
Still, Alex being used as a spy can't be entirely blamed on Blunt. There are other adults in power who know (military personnel, the prime-minister, various other agencies and other rich or important people). I wonder what kind of excuses they use to get to sleep each night?

Blunt is so self-serving, so utilitarian ... I think you've captured his essence very well
(would just alert to typo -- "leech" should really be "leash" !!)
