So I was googling hex sign pictures and designs because I am getting ready work on my next hex sign design.. Hahaha, technically, she did change at least 7 things about the design, but it is pretty obvious where her inspiration came from. Hopefully your work inspires her to be cleaner with hers.
Yours is way better.

I miss you guys!!! Just passed mid-terms, I'm hoping to come and see you once I've finished this big project that's taking forever.

It's not different enough to be qualified as fair use. You could send her a cease & desist letter for copyright infringement, though it sounds like you're more flattered than upset.

Wow! I sincerely apologize! I was searching the internet much like how you described your were doing a couple of years ago when looking for inspiration for art. I saw that hex signs were a super cool thing and wanted to give it a try. I think I've made about 7 and gave up because as simple as they seem they are actually really hard. I really LOVED your hedgehogs and made mine for my sister. She was going through a rough spell and needed some imagination and creativity in her life so I gave it that title and gave it to her. My piece wasn't sold, it was given as a gift. When I was doing my hex sign image search I saw so many hex sign images repeated over and over that I didn't realize that yours was unique or trademarked/copyrighted. I certainly saw that it was fabulous - it just made my heart sing! I falsely assumed it was in the same vain as the many other hex sign designs that have been reproduced over and over in the hex sign tradition. I have taken the image off my website and my blog and have no plans for reproducing the image ( ... )
