This is a total long shot, but... A long time ago one of the featured LJ communities was a comm whose main purpose was to post what topic you were interested in and people would comment with suggestions of (usually active) communities

I posted this question in whatwasthatone and community_quest was recommended to me. I'm not sure it's the same one I had in mind, but the premise is the same.

Thanks for that, I joined it too. I love finding new communities, but it seems like so many are dead these days. :(
