spn finale reaction post

SO HAPPY RIGHT NOW, OMG :DDDDDDD *bounces*

Dean and Cas trapped in purgatory -- so much amazing potential there. this gives the perfect opportunity for them to start working through both their personal demons and their issues with each other, while being total fucking badasses and searching for a way out at the same time. Also the glimpse we saw of purgatory looked genuinely creepy -- just hope show doesn't go for the quick fix and have them out by 8.01. (And I don't think for a second that Castiel has abandoned Dean, though am intrigued by the reason for his disappearance at the end).

SO HAPPY it looks as though Cas is well on the way to being regular!Cas again. I missed him.

SAM ;_; ngl, I find his situation be by far the more terrifying of the two, b/c at least Dean has Cas with him; Sam is entirely on his own, and his desperation at the end was heartbreaking (kudos to jared there). It will be interesting to see how he copes this time -- past experience shows he tends to go off the rails without Dean around, but I kinda think he's grown past that as a character now. I love the possibility of this going full circle and giving Sam the chance to rescue Dean (and Cas) after the original plans to have him get dean out of hell fell through.

MEG SURVIVED!!! ...and got hauled away by Crowley, which was less awesome, but I have faith that she will somehow fight her way out and return with a vengeance, because she's Meg. And she was snarky and badass and she drove the Impala and I just love her okay??

I found Bobby's exit strange b/c it didn't really impact me all that much emotionally. I think possibly the fact that I found his original death in 7.10 so poignant and was never a fan of the ghost storyline meant I was mostly just relieved. Having said that, I'm glad that the decision to go was one that he made on his own terms (agency!!!), and I thought the Ws' quiet grief as he went up in flames came across very well. Castiel watching from a distance was a nice touch, too.

Crowley is a magnificent bastard and I love to hate him. Love that he was pulling everybody's strings and orchestrated everything so that he would come out on top, because he got pretty much everything he wanted: Dick's dead and the rest of the Leviathans are in turmoil, he got his revenge on Cas and Meg, Dean is out of the picture (for now) and Sam is left alone. I'm so torn b/c I want so badly to see him get his comeuppance, yet at the same time he's such an awesome character that I kind of want to have him around forever.

I've been liking Dick (lol) a lot more these past few eps: his corporate smugness and Patrick Bateman-style psychopathy are entertaining, and I could've watched his banter with Crowley for hours. That said, I do feel he lacked the meance of previous Big Bads (Azazel, Lilith, Lucifer) and I'm glad his role wasn't dragged out into S8. He did get a pretty awesome sendoff, though: the look on his face suggests to me that he knew damn well he would be dragging Dean and Cas down with him.

I also warmed to Kevin a lot this episode and I'm hoping it's not the last we'll see of him b/c he hasn't done anything to deserve his fate. I have literally no idea what Crowley could possibly want him for, but I'm willing to bet it's nothing good.

... Which is not to say this episode was perfect, because it definitely wasn't. Once again, I had a lot of issues with the pacing (it felt like there was a lot of standing around and talking for the first half-hour, with most of the action crammed into the last ten miniutes) with the usual Supernatural smattering of gross misogyny (why the everloving fuck was it necessary for Polly to take her dress off? Ugh) but it was a damn good finale and it's left me feeling a lot more positive about SPN that I have done for a while. I have some more thoughts about the season as a whole that I plan to post at some point, but for now I'm content to just roll around in feels and wait in anticipation for all the juicy hiatus fic that's bound to result from this (also, I now know what to write for my DCBB!! \o/)

Why is October so far away???
