Something I forgot to mention

We took Simone to the Pediatrician for a "wellness" visit. Refused MMRI until she's older, thankfully with no hassle or debate, but when it came time for the doc to ask questions about diet, she was very nasty about me still breastfeeding. Guilty, are we? I explained that I eat as vegan as possible, and want to protect my daughter from the life ( Read more... )

I can go anywhere, to see doctors, and usually my mom takes me, so if there are good docs down there, it might just be easier. I think I just need them to be covered under Blue Shield. Man, I can't wait till this younger generation of happy, AP parented kids grows up and changes the medical industry for the better. *crosses fingers*

I laughed at her and said I don't believe in having children if you will have to leave them in daycare for someone else to raise, having to worry about their wellbeing, looking for outward signs of possible abuse. I am a MOTHER, not just a breeder.

I second that. If it weren't for my Mother being there to watch Ian, I don't know what I would have done because I could never ever leave him in one of those places. I wish more people had that attitude.

isn't it great to have a supportive mom? I know my mother would do the same if something happened and I had to work again.

Katrinna has had several doctors, since we move so often, and every one of them, with the exception of the one in Newfoundland, thought it was perfectly fine to not have dairy. In fact, whenever I go in they ask me if I eat dairy and when I say no, they say good, recap the problems of dairy, etc. (I am in Eugene though, people here are more health conscious than elsewhere). Of course, I don't know how it is in SoCal but I was pregnant down there and my doctor wasn't concerned about my vegan diet. What could she possibly be thinking to tell you Simone needs to be weened, HELLO, its not like she is a waif!!! You ween children off of breastmilk when they are not getting all the nutrition they need from their mommy. If the kid is healthy, why would you change anything. I am so irritated with that whole mentality. I could go on and on, but I'll just leave it at: I am a big, very healthy, vegetarian who has been tested by her doctor in Newfoundland to make sure I have all the nutrition I need, to the shock of my backwards doc, I am above ( ... )

Whoooo! You fucking rock, Girly.
This is such confirmation for me to find a better doctor. I just thought the majority were like this one. It's good to hear there are really good ones out there.

Are you pals with the Mommyx.com people? They have a message board and I'm sure someone could direct you to a vegan doctor. They also have knit and bitch circles!!!!

Oh my, that sounds like fun! I'll go check it out. I thought I was fine on my own, but these sorts of resources are becoming more and more of a tool for me. I'm glad that I'm not too proud to use them, like I was before. I think actually having the baby and being a mom for a while is so humbling.

Thats so stupid! what kind of doctor is that?

I was breast feed till i was almost 3 but i still had allergies. I get SO mad at those people who think breast feeding is dirty. They wouldnt be here if it wasnt for breasts
