Excuse my ignorance, as I am not a computer science person, but is it possible to erase the cache by hacking without google knowing? I'm not saying that's what happened, but I don't really trust either party (google or PRC gov, though google is probably a bit more trustworthy, if only because of American pressure), so I'm interested in knowing what the possibilities are.

Also, since it was ultimately uncovered in some translator cache, it's a good lesson on how hard it is to really make something disappear on the internet, even for government censors.
