Mark is off to a well-earned rest and left the comic to me to update.

It's here as usual.

From the script:Cultural Notes:
New Abilene clothing
Men on New Abilene wear ties; women wear dresses or skirts and blouses, sans ties. Even police uniforms follow this gender differentiation, even though it's rather stupid to expect your policewomen to deal with the extra burden of running after criminals while wearing skirts.
In other words, it's meant to be an example of New Abilene's culture (or lack thereof). :)

You were just waiting for this, weren't you?! :-)

Well, now I'm intrigued and want to see more of this culture!

It seems strange though that with this kind of gender differentiation a woman would still be trusted important assignments... So either Isabel is really special... Or this assignment wasn't as important as I'm led to believe... Or there are some strange things at interplay here.

The answers to the questions in your third paragraph are in another part of the script, but I won't quote that because it gives away part of an upcoming scene. :)

Beer and skittles naldru March 22 2009, 16:15:28 UTC
For things such as beer and skittles, http://urbandictionary.com is a good soiurce of information. However, there are few words that won't have slightly different meanings in different parts of the world. However, some organizations have editorial guidelines on idioms and slang: for example some editors might prefer "fun and games" to "beer and skittles".

Why GIMP? nullcast March 23 2009, 15:26:11 UTC
Honsetly I've recently discovered Inkscape and it makes generating vector graphics like buttons so much easier than anything I previously used for the job.

Nevermind, a little experimentation reveals the answer: because Inkscape doesn't seem to want to output raster.

1) GIMP's free.
2) It has a very large base of free tutorials and FAQs on the web.
3) I decided to redo the buttons on a whim, and I already suspected that GIMP would do what I wanted.

I'm sure I could have found a program that would have created buttons more easily than GIMP, but the research to find it would have taken longer than it did to just use GIMP. :)
