Update --> skipped out on the next Week 2 practice (which should have been Day 4).
So today I went back and revisited the standing poses that were the emphasis of Week 1. I feel much more energized and connected, probably because I am not really following a longer set of asanas. I am currently feeling resistant to the Sun Salutations, at least in so much as the sets of postures outlined in Week 2 tend to be very repetitive and long and drag on forever. I also added Child's pose to today's practice (not normally seen in the Week 1 set of poses). I think that there is something very freeing for me about Tree pose, in particular. I like most of the standing poses (especially the side facing ones), possibly because they are easier to contort my body into and they don't delve into the emotional centers that I appear to be so resistant with in the Week 2 postures. I haven't even gotten into the heart opening postures and I'm already feeling resistance. I suppose I shall have to work at it.
Additionally, the last few days I have attempted to practice yoga while watching videos/TV on my laptop or while listening to radio interviews or podcasts. This is a very useful way for me to allow myself to let my body move, flow, and generally feel better. I do realize that this is just another way to distract myself from the things that come up during yoga, but motivation is key. If I can motivate myself to change my routine, then I need to do it however it ends up working. Once I am comfortably in a new routine, I can then deepen my practice by removing some of these motivators (maybe not all the time, but at least during relaxation and meditation). I need to remember that it's ok to just take baby steps. Stonehenge was not built in a day, after all (note: this is definitely an assumption on my part).
Until we meet again!
