I'm back!!! I had a bit of a slump (that I am hopefully pulling out of now) over the last almost 2 months. Today, however, I managed to complete the entire practice for Week 2, Day 4. Yay!!!
I've been having difficulties with motivation lately. Partly due to the holidays, partly due to dysfunctional family relationships, partly due to my financial situation (which is thankfully starting to look up), and partly due to the fact that my current default psychological/emotional setting is at depressed/schizoid (for those of you who understand the psychodynamic personality structures). This whole yoga journal and development of a stronger/more active personal practice is my way of attempting to change my default setting and raise my baseline to something more functional.
I started a new part-time job yesterday and have returned to visiting the gym semi-regularly with my cousin. In terms of my sleep issues - last night, I didn't manage to get to sleep until the wee hours of the morning, so I woke up after noon today. Because of my sluggish resistance to changing my baseline existence, I am very proud that I managed to complete the next phase of my yoga practice. Part of the reason I made it through today, was because I was listening to one of my favorite podcasts (Sex Nerd Sandra - check it out at nerdist.com). I am feeling much better after completing a practice today. My muscles are looser, my body temp is warmer, I'm a little more awake and aware, I am more emotionally content, and am a bit more motivated to try to accomplish something in what little time remains in the rest of this day.
So, today's practice consisted of mini and full sun salutations which concentrated on Up Dog Pose. I added in a few modifications here and there to alleviate some of my wrist pain/strain issues. This practice ended with some energizing standing poses before relaxation and meditation. I really enjoyed today's practice and only experienced one or two instances of "I'm bored" or "I'm done with this" feelings throughout the almost hour that my practice took.
NOTE TO SELF: Catch up on podcasts while practicing yoga (and while cleaning) because I find it motivating. :D
