Two of my lessons cancelled yesterday and it wasn't too cold so I saddled up River, my favorite school horse, and had a little ride....I actually managed about 1/2 hour before my hip locked up and the pain got excruciating. I was riding around with my feet out of the stirrups just to stretch my legs out, and my hips aren't even vaguely symmetrical ( Read more... )

is happily jealous for you :)

I haven't gotten brave enough to really ride since I hurt my back. Have hopped on and walked to cool out a horse but thats it. On the flipside have made strides in my equine massage technique since I have lots of ground time.

Also of note yours is the second River horse I've heard of. I dealt with a no spot app named River years ago, cool horse had I been looking at the time.

River is a 20 yr. old 16.2 hand dark bay OTTB. He's absolutely honest and laid-back, so I don't have to worry about riding around with my feet out of the stirrups and having him spook or take off or something.

I'm actually thinking of getting a seat saver and putting some extra padding under one seat bone to see if that will even them out, once I get fit again.

Ouch. Sorry about the pain.

Chiropractor, maybe?

I know how you feel. The doctor gave me a scrip for a spinal x-ray because I'm having so much pain on my left side when I sit for longer than about thirty minutes.

I don't know if the chiropractor could do anything or not. I had that left hip x-rayed years ago, and it already had a quarter-size spot where the cartilage was worn right off, and that was before falling and getting kicked in the back. I'm hoping once my leg muscles get back in shape they'll help support that side.
