The Coup ~eighth descent~

Jan 20, 2010 17:35

As the passengers come upon this deck, they should find it familiar; after all, it is a residential deck much like the ones they inhabit.  However, it is bleak and undecorated, cold and unwelcoming.  Bare light bulbs -- many of which have burned out -- flicker overhead ( Read more... )

The first deck he and Ashelin had visited had held little promise. If they hadn't been on a time limit, they might have continued exploring. As it is, their time is too valuable to waste on a seemingly empty and purposeless deck.

This one, however, picked at random, immediately catches their interest. Phoenix stops and looks at Ashelin. Her ears are just as sensitive as his. Surely she hears those voices as well.

The only issue is the sign on the wall.

"What do you think? Do we trust the equipment provided?"

The poster isn't good enough. It's something, but it's still not good enough. If anything, it pisses the captain off a little. She'll just have to hope they find something better later on.

There's a problem, though. That's assuming Ashelin actually trusts the Captain, his crew, or anything that's on a sign for her to read. "Do we have a choice?" she asks. No. Of course they don't.

The voices seem to settle it. What's going on down the deck? "Let's do it to it. If you're scared, I'll go first."

The air seems perfectly breathable in here. Inside the tank, however ...

Muffled voices continue their conversation deep in the tank.

One of Phoenix's ears flicks with annoyance. "I am not afraid," he says. "Merely cautious. I do not like trusting in the Captain or this ship." Even so, he is moving to where the respirators are. He takes one down and starts to fit it over his face.

His voice is muffled now. "Whenever you're ready."

Lily stares at the sign.

Stares at it.

A lot.

Then she shouts, "WHAT DOES THIS SAY?"

Voices? Perhaps one of the few signs of life Gideon has encountered down here. He briefly wonders about the safety of the masks-- and the hazards of what's beyond the tank. Eventually, he decides to risk it and slips into a mask, stepping further into the deck.

His first steps are slow and cautious-- if he feels or senses anything strange, he's going to be backpedaling quickly.

A mask isn't necessary outside here! But Gideon does look rather fetching in it.

A large bubble makes a BLOOP noise in the fish tank.

Gideon removes the mask for now-- he'll investigate the airlock later. If it can even be opened. For now, he tucks it under one arm and walks up to the fish tank, peering inside.

Oh hello!

A large pink fish person swims by, pausing at the unfamiliar face.

It signs with its fishy hands.

Goodness gracious, now where are they? At least there isn't any blood or anything this time. Mimmi takes a quick look around and is instantly intrigued by the giant fish tank. How odd.

She approached it slowly, peered into the water, and gently tapped on the glass.

Huh.

BLOOP BLOOP

Two large bubbles pop, and a bright pink fish-person swims over to the glass. He doesn't look very happy though, and he signs in frustration at Mimmi.

HOLY SWEET JESUS SOMETHING'S IN TH- oh it's just an odd pink fish person. It... doesn't look very happy though. She wouldn't be happy either if she were stuck in a tank. Mimmi removes her hand from the glass and watches it for a moment before waving. Awkwardly.

Who waves to fish?

The fish stops and blinks, then holds up a hand and waves back.

It signs again. Can't you understand it?

Razer is heading down the elevator with Jeremiah, a camera that officially has very little use, and a ream's worth of posters folded and tucked into his belt. Good times, good times.

The doors slide open and he looks out, quirking on fine eyebrow.

"Well, there are living quarters down here, so I suppose there must be people among the living."

He steps out and eyes the tank on one side of the hall, then turns to look back at Jere. Hurry up, fishboy, or he's ditching you.

Good times Jeremiah would prefer on skipping out of, Razer. Though the fish is surprised there are any times at all, considering he's got twelve foot long ears to see past and dodge every time the damn kid turns his head.

Oh, and he's that damn human Sherlock now too. Awesome. But considering Razer's a good balance to his over complex and military thinking, the fish will keep pace with elf-boy and remain completely silent. Jeremiah's in observation mode, a zoned-out-state where he's too busy figuring out if the space they're walking through is triggered to explode.

Someday Razer will make it known to people like Jeremiah that on his world, he's pretty damn close to old. One foot in the grave kind of old. Pretty much no one makes it to forty.

For now, he swings the camera idly in one hand, back and forth like it's a piece of baggage and he's on his way to the boarding platform, and makes his way to the tank. He leans in, ears perked, and listens.

This is clearly a residential floor, which means that something has to reside in this tank. There are enough waterbound creatures down below to warrant a tank this large--or just one very large waterbound creature, with this place one has leave to wonder.

So he goes still, searches the water with his eyes and ears, and waits. Jeremiah is free to complain about whatever he feels Razer is doing wrong now, but Razer is going to find something worthwhile down here, come hell or high water.

Or something similar--such as a fishtank.

Jeremiah's so old in any moral race, so whatever babble Jeremiah picks up from Razer wouldn't even be noticed. In fact Jeremiah would still call Razer kid even of the elf proved his age to the fish. But while Razer is busy exploring, the fish is busy playing guard. Decks this below the regulated area give call for a certain type of careful-- the careful Jeremiah's scales were practically built for.

Though at the obvious lack of attention for those goddamn voices from Razer, Jeremiah will turn to glare at him.

"...this is an exploration. A quick one."
