Veld had no idea that this would be so simple. A lot of people were on Deck 13, lured by the promise of a fight. With all the excitement he doubted that anyone would notice the interest he was taking in the fighters, or that his notes were rather complete for 'just keeping track'. Whatever he missed, Valentine was in the wings and Reno was planted in the fight itself. Veld had used similar fights as recruitment tools in the past, and while he didn't have ShinRa's money to offer on the ship, he did have enough information to perhaps be persuasive enough to get people to follow his lead.
He had Nel as a healer in the wings and Veld had kept his own Cure Materia on him. The only thing left was to find out how many people were worth his time. Everyone put their names into a box and he began to yell off the contestants. "Whenever you ready, begin."
