Before I saw the link I just thought of a girl in an ugly pink rubber dress who farts a lot.

It's just such an unattractive costume. It's also plus-sized. There's some kind of insult there. Something like Well, you're so fat, you couldn't possibly fit into any of our good costumes, so you should be a fart generator.

And it's $50!

When my mother was poor, I got some pretty silly costumes. I was a present once (cardboard box with shimmery wrapping paper on it), and I was dressed up in my mother's clothes (bra included) with a phanny pack for an ass and was declared "Mrs. Doubtfire". They were pretty funny looking back. My mother NEVER made me a farting device.
