Sex, Gender and Competition Poll

Aug 02, 2005 01:03

Late night TV always makes me want to write a poll. In deference to an earlier request, the results of this poll will be viewable to none (which will allow me to view your answers, but no one else). Also, IP logging is turned off, and anonymous posting is available, so please tell me what you really think.

And to think I've been playing games all this time simply because I thought they were fun.

Now I feel like I've been missing out on a whole other social dynamic. Have I simply been unaware of these undercurrents all this time? ;-}

Completely true. Dammit, I meant to include that (and I was thinking of an old LJ post of yours).

The thing that inspired me to write the poll was some guy on Jay Leno who was saying that he wouldn't be able to date a woman who could beat him at bowling, but maybe the solution was to teach her enough [bad techniques] that she would lose to him.

Very irritating.

I would like to say, in a larger group context where there is still the date aspect, either me or my date winning is sexy, cause then we rock.

Also, I think I fell in love with someone once when they beat me at Trivial Pursuit. So, the actual game being played matters. In general, I am not actually competitive - however, I like when people are good at things, and it's sexy when someone is also good at the things that I am good at. In other words, it's fun to find a challenge where I wasn't necessarily expecting one.

That said, being beaten soundly is rarely fun, and bad player behavior is about enough to make me walk away from someone completely. However, with good player behavior and a non-competitive attitude, I don't mind being even being beaten horribly if it's not something I expected to be good at.

I'm with you there.

When I met attutle, one of the things that impressed me most about him was his good behaviors (including a light-hearted attitude even when the engine of his car siezed while we were in Jemez).

Ooh yes, that's a huge one!! It's so impressive and attractive to me when people deal well with sudden stressors like that.
