Jail time

I know someone who is currently in the metro jail out on the west side. He was on probation, and he drank alcohol on the day of the Super Bowl (violating his terms of release). I can't defend him, but I can say that he's a good guy, and I feel very sad for him to be locked up right now ( Read more... )

Sorry I was only in for 14 hours. Oh and we had paypaled you the money for Steen and it was returned. How do you want to fix that?? Do you want that I just send or bring you a check??

There's nothing that needs to be done. Metro lockup is like taking a vacation. Rest assured, as long as your friend is non-confontational and has no gang affiliations, he'll walk in and out like a stroll in the park.

Interesting. Are you speaking about your own experience in a jail near me or somewhere else?

I think you're right, though, that it's not a very violent place, and I think he'll come out unhurt. Except for the loss of a month's wages. But still... it sounded so bleak when the woman at the commissary said that he'd need $35 or $40 just for basic necessities like toothbrush and toothpaste, and that most inmates live on ramen.

This is someone else..... but, I had a friend in there for over a year. It is not violent at all. As for the money... well, in order to get cookies or medicine (things like tylenol are somewhere near $4 a pill) or good junk food, they need money. They are fed crap, but it is protein and starch crap. My friend could not stomach much flavorful food when he got out. If the inmates want anything other than their 3 square a day, they must have money. Also, paper and envelopes are obnoxiously expensive. I know most guys in there cherish letters. The best thing to do for your friend would be to write lots of letters and also visit if at all possible.

Thanks for the additional information.

The thing is, this guy is a friendly acquaintance. I like him ok, but ... we're not really friends. I feel a little nervous about a visit or a letter, because it seems to suggest that we have a close relationship where one doesn't exist. Does that make sense?

Maybe I'm over think this, though.
