Burlesque Noir Spooktacular

Is there any more fabulous way to kick off Halloween season than cheering on friends and acquaintances while they dance the kooch?

The show tonight was spectacular. Starting with a burlesque of Michael Jackson's Thriller (1984). (As I rewatch the video for the first time in over a decade -- two things occur to me ( Read more... )

I'm so excited to get feedback that I can't stop commenting!

You may have missed that Lil' Heathen had her badge of courage attached to the back of her thong. :)

I'm not sure, but I think the "deity" in blue in the Bollywood skit was Krishna, and that the skit was a spoof of the famous "Krishna and the milkmaids" tale. Having the tune switch from Bollywood musical to hip-hop as "he" and the "cow" came out was hilarious. :-) Perhaps basal_ganglia can enlighten us.

I had to leave after the first couple of numbers in the 2nd act - knee was acting up.

BTW, would you mind making this post public so I can link to it from my journal and email a link to a couple of friends who aren't on LJ? I'll make it friends_only in mine, when I get around to posting.

Also, I had to look it up to be reminded, but Krishna is the 8th avatar of Vishnu, so you're partially right. :)

All the eyes came from a Bhagavad-Gita passage about Krishna revealing his true nature to Arjuna:

It was a multiform, countless vision,
with countless mouths and eyes
and celestial ornaments,
brandishing many divine weapons.

Everywhere was boundless divinity
containing all astonishing things,
wearing divine garlands and perfumes,
annointed with divine perfume.

I posted that on my LJ, and Sara saw it and did her amazing Krishna embellishments based on that. She is the most resourceful and creative person EVAR, I swear!

I was wondering where all the eyes came from!

I was on the fence -- Krishna? Vishnu? Vishnu? Krishna? Because I am a moron when it comes to Hindu.

I loved the googly eyes. And the cow costume -- so sparkly and yet so Guernsey

For the record, the name of that song is "Venus in Furs".

And I don't think you ever got my sms the other day, but I just randomly told you you were awesome. So, you're still awesome.
