Obligatory Star Trek post

Unspoilery reaction: Omg so good.

1. When Spock told the council "Live long and prosper" the bitches was totally implied and I cracked up.

2. It was really good. It was funny and explodey and plotty and good.

3. Fantastic use of Leonard Nimoy.

4. Ok, I got my "period is coming" email so take this with a grain of salt but I totally cried when Kirk was born as his father collided to his death.

5. I cannot believe that his mother would then marry such an apparent asshole so I hope his stepdad wasn't as big a jerk as his brief voice appearance implied.

6. Uhura/Spock! I don't know quite how I feel about it but I do enjoy that they didn't go the Kirk/Uhura route. Also, it was incredibly sweet and hilarious when she kissed him goodbye and Kirk and Scotty were all "buzzuh?" Heh.

7. Admiral Archer and his prize beagle! Haha! It took about 10 seconds after Scotty said Admiral Archer for that to ping with me and when it did a may have said "Admiral Archer!" out loud and then cracked up at Scotty beaming Porthos to another planet. Frankly I'm a little surprised that J.J. Abrams threw in that nod to Enterprise since it's kind of considered the red-headed step child of Trek series. I still cracked up and enjoyed it.

8. I'm not really paying attention to the whole alternate reality that this movie has set up because if I do it will hurt my head.

9. Kirk meeting Nimoy!Spock was awesome.

10. Really I think that the new actors all did a fantastic job at inhabiting some rather well known characters and making them their own.

11. When Kirk landed on the ice planet I did giggle and say to myself "hee! He's been stranded on Hoth!"

12. Even though I'm not a huge fan of TOS, not like other people, the end with Nimoy!Spock saying the mission statement of the Enterprise over TOS music made me giddy.

13. Also, when Kirk was getting his ass kicked on the Romulan ship my mother turned to me and told me that Kirk was sure getting beat up a lot in this movie at the exact same time I'd been about to say the same thing. Heh. He got his ass kicked a lot though.

Also the trailer for Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen made me really want to see it. Big giant machines doing battle? Sign me up.
