Eyeshield Chapter 258

*stares, stunned, in disbelief*

But... but... did they seriously just... they can't...

...

...

...

Oh, God.

Oh, God, Hiruma. When he's lying there still holding on to hope that it's only his left arm that's been destroyed, and then... And the expressions on everyone's faces - Sena looking utterly stunned and then the rest of the team - Suzuna stopping mid-cheer and Mamori looking devastated and Kurita falling to his knees and screaming and...

It makes a horrible sort of sense, though, that Marco managed to catch Hiruma off-guard by doing the one thing that Hiruma absolutely would not do - by throwing a teammate to the wolves. Because Hiruma - cynical, disillusioned Hiruma who fully expects people to be weak and cruel and worse than they could be, who knows exactly how much of an unprincipled bastard Marco is, who has a gift for anticipating the enemy's every move - Hiruma is utterly shocked that Marco would do what he did. Because that's the one line that he won't cross. It's fine, in his books, to lie, and extort, and threaten, but you don't screw over a teammate. Ever.

And Marco crossed that line.

So yeah. Now that I've come down from my initial "WAUGH, MY HEART!" reaction, it was a fucking awesome chapter. Whyyyyy isn't it next week yet.

And now, to bed.
