Cross Posted to fey_spiritCould someone please tell me why LJ can kick someone off for posting pictures of erotic art - but someone can say that everyone in my religion should be burned and they're protected by the right to speak their opinion? How does this not fall under Hate Speech ( Read more... )

That's so fucking wrong. It's also very typical of where our country is at right now, unfortunately. *hugs*

Well, obviously the human body is an inherently sinful and corrupting thing. Unlike hate speech.

As an outsider, sometimes the US looks like it has a very confused attitude to sex. At the moment there's a huge furore over Grand Theft Auto:San Andreas containing some (terribly blurred) sex scenes, which makes it an adults only game, not 17+. Whereas I think that the game should be adults only because you run round being a pimp, a drug dealer, a murderer, and committing loads of lesser crimes on the way. The sex scenes don't really register on my radar in a game where they have pole dancing.

You know, I completely agree with you about San Andres. Although I do understand the fuss about the adult content. At least with the other the parents knew what their children were being exposed to - this was something that the parents were not aware of when the game was brought into their house. Whether I agree that sex should be the hot button issue, I do belive that the parents have the right to be informed as to everything to do with the game it's self.

I agree about the informing thing. It's just that you also spend the game being a pimp and hanging round in pole-dancing clubs. I find it silly that watching Barbie and Ken make little jiggly motions pushes it over into Adults Only!

I don't want to sound like an America-basher because your country was my second home for very special times in my life, but this is one of the things I've come to sort of understand (in my brain, not in my heart) because of your country's history but find hard to accept ( ... )

I don't know if you've opened a wormcan with anyone else, feather, but you certainly haven't with me. I am one of a rapidly growing number of Americans who are increasingly disgusted to find that our nation and our ideals have been hijacked by the narrow-minded corporatist, pseudo-religious agenda of this administration and its supporters.

In my case, the hijacking happened in spite of pouring my heart and soul into doing everything I could to try to stop it. I now have to fight cynicism on a daily basis. >B^(

All I ask of people in other countries right now is to try to understand that our government, corporations and media simply do not speak for the viewpoints of most Americans. The voice of the majority of the U.S. is being drowned out or stifled right now.

What karihan said.

A lot of us feel as if we are being held hostage in our own country by the assholes in charge. Trust me, the majority does NOT rule.
