Why is it that the courts will protect a parents right to let their child die of cancer based on relgious beleifs, but decides it's perfectly legitimite to tell a parent they have to keep their children away from their pagan beleif system? WTF is wrong with this world ( Read more... )

God forbid that a child should be exposed to other religions. It might make them grow up tolerant, and we can't possibly have that.

Anyway, hasn't the judge heard of mixed marriages, between people who follow different faiths? I grew up in a household with a Catholic mum and an atheist dad. Clearly, I am totally scarred by this.

the Texas goverment has taken away the Universalist churche's right to tax free status

Universalist? As in Unitarian Universalist? As in MY CHOSEN CHURCH, and the Texas legislature is fucking with it?!

ASSHOLES! I'm praying the ACLU is on to both of the situations you mentioned. I'm SO glad I joined. Look, Ma, I'm a "terrorist"!!!

I will tell you something true: I would a thousand times rather be damned for being open-hearted, understanding and loving, than be saved for being hateful, intolerant and bigoted. If the only people who get into heaven are in the latter group, heaven is not a place I want to be.

I don't know if it helps any to know this, but that Texas tax commissioner who tried to deny tax-exempt status to the UU church was quickly reversed. I hope the same thing happens in the other case you mentioned -- I don't think the judge's ruling can pass even the most superficial scrutiny on appeal.

Thank you, JayBee. It actually helps a LOT to know that sanity still exists ... I would say, "even in Texas", but I'm still too fair-minded to slap an entire state with the label "neocon pseudo-Christian morons".

Can't you just tell I'm a UU? ;^)

Gonna be a hard fight to restore democracy, and damned if I'm waiting 'till 2008 ...

I find I have to stop myself from the "even in Texas" remarks myself. Fortunately I know some cool people who live there and that serves as a good reminder.

And yeah, if we wait until 2008, we'll all be in BIG trouble.
